The fine dining room is known for its fresh seafood, such as the house specialty Lobster Dublin Lawyer, as well as for steak, lamb and a local favourite roast duck with sour cherry anise glaze. White linen, impeccable service and an extensive wine list complete the experience.

Dinner served daily from 5pm
Our Irish Pub

MICHI was opened in December of 2003 by co-owners, Toshiji Shinmura and Michihiro Oishi. Shinmura immigrated to Canada from Japan in 1977 and took up residence in Regina. During the years that followed, a few restaurants professing to be Japanese were opened here, but the Japanese community found them to be lacking in authenticity and quality. Shinmura wanted to give the people of Regina a truly authentic Japanese restaurant with high-quality food and at reasonable prices. Meanwhile, his longtime friend in Japan, Mr. Oishi, was seeking an opportunity to invest in a foreign venture. He decided that a Japanese restaurant in the middle of the Canadian Prairies would be ideal, so he and Shinmura struck up a partnership, and MICHI was established. It has become the only restaurant in Regina that serves authentic Japanese cuisine prepared by veteran Japanese chefs.
Our five chefs are from Tokyo and Shizuoka, Japan. Shizuoka Prefecture is on the Pacific coast of Japan where many kinds of fish are available, making it an ideal location for our chefs’ years of training and work experience in traditional Japanese cooking skills.
We prepare our menu items using fresh and high quality ingredients. The seafood served at MICHI comes from Japan through a Japanese company in Vancouver. We also offer a wide selection of wines which have been carefully chosen to complement our cuisine. Our menu features signature combos, monthly lunch specials, and sushi party trays.

The menu consists of a collection of simple street or home food from other countries, compiled by Chef Harold Wollin, whose travels have taken him all over the world.
The food ranges from tastes of Asia, Central and South America, using local ingredients wherever possible. Try the Pad Thai, Churrasco Braziliera, Chicken Mole, Goat Curry or Vietnam-inspired salad wraps that take the whole idea another step into healthy fresh dining choices.
But the added value at Blue Chair Cafe is LIVE MUSIC! Through the past four years, the cafe has garnered a reputation as an excellent listening room with fantastic acoustics and sight lines. The Cannery offers a wide daily variety of local and imported seafood. Dedicated to the creation of the finest dishes, Executive Chef Wayne Sych blends traditional techniques with the freshest local and exotic ingredients. This, when combined with exquisite presentation promises a truly memorable dining experience.
The wine list offers an extensive collection of the best of Old World as well as West Coast wineries and has won more than 36 Awards of Excellence.
The Cannery has become a landmark and a restaurant of distinction by setting the standard for the freshest seafood in Vancouver for more than 35 years. The Cannery is only 15 minutes from downtown with ample free parking as well as a boat docking facility. Reservations are recommended.
History
The Cannery Seafood Restaurant opened its doors on August 15 th, 1971. With vision and determination, a small bay in Vancouver’s bustling harbour was transformed into a legendary dining destination. It all began when 46 pilings were driven into the ocean floor to create the foundation of the restaurant you see today.
The Cannery is a simple, traditional building exemplifying the small fish canneries that dotted the west coast inlets of BC. The Cannery Queen gill-netter located at the entrance to the parking lot extends a nautical welcome to guests. The restaurant’s decor has evolved ad hoc, with each new piece finding its place among the others. The decorations include a ship’s boiler, inverted and turned into a circular fireplace beside the downstairs bar. A whale rib sits over a table while crab traps, brailing nets, gill nets, photographs and memorabilia adorn the walls. Old hatch covers from a fishing boat create bar tables and the coil from the fireplace boiler hangs as a chandelier between the Chowder Bar and the main dining room. The bar and wood paneling covering the Cannery walls was rescued from a 100 year old barn on the Fraser River near Ladner.
The Cannery is a place of integrity. Above all, it is a place of comfort, good food and good wine.
